It’s hot and nasty out, and you haven’t seen the inside of a shower in 2 days. Here are some of my favorite, super-quick, go-to hairstyles for the 4 minutes you have to get yourself together before leaving for carpool. (You know, so you don’t look like the hot mess that you really are.)
1. Headband it!
This is one of my most favorite tired mom tricks of all time. It’s perfect for the greasy hair days when there’s really nothing you can do to make it look good. Cover it up with a headband, and throw the rest of your hair in a low pony! This headband came in a 5-pack that was like $6 at Walmart. Just do your makeup (maybe even a little heavier than normal), throw on some big earrings and sunglasses, and you look totally put-together and chic. No one needs to know how bad your personal hygiene habits really are.
2. Braid it!
When my hair is tired and dirty, and I really need to conceal the greasy areas that frame my face, this double-sided French braid is perfect. I split my hair at its natural part, and keep the French braid close to my hairline as I can. Tie off both braids at the end, and then use a couple bobby pins to conceal them under the other braid and pin them up off your neck. This isn’t perfect, but it only took me a few minutes. Which is less time than a shower and blowdry. Yes, you do need to know how to French braid to do this, but even if you don’t, take a small section of hair on the top of your head to mimic a French braid, but just do a regular braid, with that small section, the rest of the way down. When you’re done, put all of your hair in a ponytail, and it at least looks a little more styled than just a plain ponytail!
3. Twist it!
Here’s another step up from the ponytail that is just distracting enough to take everyone’s attention off your tired mom hair, so they can really focus on the toddler next to you, who’s demanding his fourth round of Goldfish in a 14-minute period. All you do is part your hair in the middle, and then take a little bit of the hair that frames your face, on either side, and twist it. Hold those two pieces of twisted hair and put them, along with the rest of your hair, into a ponytail like you usually would. After that, take the ponytail itself, and bring it up, then tuck it into the area right above the rubber band.
Don’t forget to check out my favorite super-quick tired mom makeup tricks, which I’m pretty sure will also come in handy when you’ve just realized you have to leave the house in 7 minutes and the baby just pooped. Oh, and since I’m obsessed with dry shampoo, I shared my favorites here too.
