It’s the time of year when the cycle of sickness seems to be constant, and a warm immunity-boosting snack is just what I’m serving to make sure my little monkeys don’t get sick!
Well, I had it coming.
I had just told a friend that no one in our family had been sick since June. (Seriously, what? I know, I know. I shocked even at myself when I said it aloud.)
Well, the next day, I woke up with a sore throat.
Yep.
Being that school has started again and our baby girl is due to arrive in the next week or so, ain’t noooooooooobody around here got time to be sick.
So I figured that, in addition to throwing back some meds myself, I’d up my kids’ sickness prevention game and serve them one of their favorite hot meals.
My kids’ favorite, 5-minute warm winter snack
oatmeal
1 scoop peanut butter
1 banana or handful of berries
honey, pancake syrup or Maty’s All-Natural Children’s Cough Syrup
I started making this for my kids years ago. They didn’t really like oatmeal (and come to think of it, I didn’t really either as a kid). So, I’d dollop in a scoop of peanut butter, mix it up and then add pancake syrup on top, and BOOM, they all wanted some! (I mean, duh.)
We actually eat this at all times of day.
On the day I realized I was sick, I ended up making it for the little boys after school.
You can also add in nuts, dried berries and even some Greek yogurt on the top if you like too. Really, the possibilities are endless and there’s nothing that doesn’t work in this little hot bowl of goodness.
In place of the pancake syrup, you can also drizzle honey on top, but that day, I figured I’d add in some Maty’s All-Natural Children’s Cough Syrup. It smells like cloves, and also has cinnamon, lemon peel, and honey in it as well.
Since Maty’s cough syrups are made with whole ingredients, you can actually use them as you would honey or maple syrup. You could also drizzle them over pancakes, yogurt or pour in a smoothie or hot tea for an immunity-boosting punch!
Well, here’s hoping that this is it for the year, but I think we all know better than that. *wink*
