It’s Valentine’s night, I’m sitting alone in

It’s Valentine’s night, I’m sitting alone in the cafeteria at the hospital I’ve been living in for the last 48 hours, and I couldn’t be happier. I’m grateful for my husband, who is at home with our 4 kids for 5 days so I can be here. I’m grateful for my mom’s hip surgery yesterday, and the fact that our relationship is in a place where I can be here for her. I’m grateful for my sister, my closest confidante, who I got to spend 3 hours of no-agenda hospital chat time with today. I’m grateful for the Marco Polo my husband sent me... all 4 of our babies, all fixed up and ready for school at 6:30am, saying “Happy Valentine’s Day Mommy.” Their voices were so sweet I nearly cried right there on my hospital cot. I’m grateful they are healthy children and I can leave them to go on trips like this without worry. I am grateful for the run I snuck out for today... the fact that my body CAN run, after debilitating back pain 2 years ago. And so as I sit here, all alone at my big white table, eating my spinach salad and refried beans (what can I say, it sounded good and sometimes you do weird things when you live at the hospital 😂🤷🏼‍♀️), it’s really not as sad as it seems. I may look like a lonely middle-aged mom with dark roots in a really tragic Valentine’s Day commercial, but I assure you, I am truly the richest, and most in love, I’ve ever been.
